Is fish oil helpful for those who have ADD or ADHD? From personal experiences I believe the answer is yes! My experiences with fish oil are limited and although I have taken fish oil supplements it has been only in very small doses and short terms. The reason I am hesitant is because I am allergic to Mercury and I have serious concerns about the toxicity of fish oils. I have been assured that certain fish oils are cleared of contaminants, but I have a nervous nature over such claims. That’s just me and probably part of my ADD. Go figure!
I have a very good friend who has been taking fish oil for almost a year and she has shown improvements in both mood and concentration. Significant improvements that is noticeable and not simply negligible. Off and on, I have taken low dose fish oil supplements and each time I had a wonderful day of concentration and cheerful mood. I am serious. If I could get over my worrying about mercury I would take the fish oil daily, so, I have no experience other than my friend when it comes to long term value.
Scientific research is proving that fish oils are beneficial to ADD, ADHD, Depression, Bipolar and many other mental disorders. I have put together some links concerning fish oil research and you can make your own informed decision:

Great topic Bryan.
I’ve been taking flaxseed oil for the omega-3 for quite awhile. Hadn’t made the ADD connection but was taking it for the hair and skin benefits. It is a ingredient in horse feed supplements to make their coats shiny and for that it works well.
I wasn’t sure if it had the same benefits as the fish oil but since you brought it up I searched a little and it seems the fish oil may benefit me better in regards to ADD. So I’ll give it a try and let you know if I notice a difference.
P.s. Sorry if this posts twice I had a little trouble

Good luck Lisa–and yes, please let us know how it goes! After further consideration I am also going to take the fish oil for a longer period of time.
After a few weeks I will report back how it’s going!
